UI Failing to load

My AVG free antivirus is failing to load the UI.  The message says "UI Failed to load.  This is really embarrassing.  Your protection is running, but the UI is having a really bad day.  Exit".

Has anyone experienced this problem before?

Yes, I started getting this message today for absolutely no reason.  I hadn't installed anything nor restarted my computer and "BOOM", message above.  The worst part is that you can't even tell from the message that it's AVG having the problem.  Shame on you AVG!  I thought you were a hacker!

I was having the same problem as Kevin Jones and Glen Miller. I was able to resolve it by following your instructions. Thank you, Akash.

Glen says he started gettig the "UI failed to load" message "for absolutely no reason". I received a notice that an update to AVG had been installed just before I started having this problem, so perhaps this update had a bug.

Namaste.

Ivan,
Pleased to see that the issue appear to be sorted now. Thanks for your response and for your time taken to letting us know about this. We appreciate all your efforts and patience. We are here, if you any any further assistance.

Akash.

I regret to say that the problem has NOT been resolved. I followed your instructions exactly, removing and reinstalling the AVG progrom. At first all appeared to be fine. The "UI Failed to load" sign appeared on my screen once, briefly, yesterday, but then disappeared. Today it reappeared, and is still on my screen.

In addition, after I have been online for an hour or two I lose my connection, and have to reboot to restore it. I don't know whether these two problems are related, or how, but I mention it since they happened at the same time.

I am experiencing the same problem.  I tried the steps identified by Akash above but the problem was not resolved.

My screen shot is attached.

Akash solution didn't work on my XP machine.

Hello, guys,

I know you're trying your best to resolve this problem, and I wish you luck. I've used AVGt for years, and it's been trouble free until now, so I'm not complaing.

Pandi Rajan asked for the version# of my AVG protection. It's 17.4.3014. Pandi also asked for a screenshot of the "UI Failed to load" message that appears on my screen. The message comes and goes (Is that good or bad?) and at the moment it's not on my screen, so I can't provide a screen shot, but it looks exactly the same as every other screenshot message here, if that helps.

I also have the same problem "UI Failing to load".

my eddition is also:

AVG Antivirus Free Version: 17.4.3014
AVG Network: Not Connected
Build Number: 17.4.3482.0

Windows VISTA SP2

I also have same problem written by Ivan in addtion to initial "UI Failing to load" screen.

>[In addition, after I have been online for an hour or two I lose my connection, and have to reboot to restore it.]

In my case. I saw "UI Failing to load" screen once.

Found this website and waiting for repair by AVG official .

"UI Failing to load" screen was only shown once and never shown yet.

But, I have following problem.

1)
I also need to reboot to restore my computer again and again.
Several times a day.

In my case, FireFox forozen, Windows OS and explorer box itself is frozen, occationally lose internet connection.

2)
Is anyway to get old edition of AVG which work fine?

older than :17.4.3014

3)
Is there any new AVG official "UI Failing to load" repaired new edditon?

Is there any breif idea when new eddition will be made?

Otherwise, how often each eddtion was released in past?

6)
Many other user is reporting the similar or other AVG related PC problem in other Website in different langadges.
OS freezing, Mouse freezing, malfunction of Webcamera connection, internt bad connection, spending large amount of CPU resorce 50-100%, etc.
Including OS Windows 7, XP, VISTA.

Many other user also mentioned when AVG is removed (uninstall) sucessfully, PC became fine and run speedy.

(It seems very difficult to remove AVG file completely if user don't use (know)
the following clear removal tools and WINDOWS SAFE MODE.
according to other users comments of other langadges Websites and testing on my PC.)

7)
It is significant/important to publish the comment for this problem to users in AVG Website, including other langadges too.
including

How To clean up AVG files and registry.

AVG_Clear.exe
AVG_Remover.exe

Because, this is one of worse experience in past 20 years of my Windows use since Windows Me was infected by virus and initialized HDD in 1990's.
I also used AVG for 7-8 years.

If the other langadges AVG user can not read English, it is relatively difficult find out the PC broken reason.
And relatively difficult to find out the AVG clean up tools for Windows standard/beginers level users in other langadges.

8)
My new Windows 10 PC with AVG is also started to spontaniously shut down and restart sometime.

Tonny RosenbergTonny Rosenberg
Thank you. Some solution seems found.

Following information may be helpful for other users having problems in wolrd wide in different langadges.

I just celean re-installed WINDOWS VISTA OS about 5 months ago to clean my PC.
I initialized HDD and VISTA OS to cleaned up PC 5 months ago.

Then, I started to install all software programs to refresh PC.
I have been re-installing and recovering process of VISTA PC for 5 months.

I also re-installed AVG too, about 5 months ago.

When, I saw "UI Failing to load" screen once in May 2017. My PC started to freeze and slow.
I spent about 3 weeks to find out the reason PC problem of and find this Website.

1)
According to the instruction in above written by Akash(AVG Technologies), I remove (uninstall) (most of) all AVG files from my PC by using

AVG_Clear.exe
AVG_Remover.exe
tools under WINDOWS SAFE MODE.

Then, there is no freezing of Windows OS nor FireFox.
Function of OS  become fine and FireFox become very speedy.

There is no need to shut down nor restart my Windows VISTA PC.
Thus, the problem seems the latest edition of AVG software(Version: 17.4.3014).

2)
Before uninstalling AVG, I saved log files of AVG by using AVG_SysInfo.exe.
I sucessfully sent back the log files by using AVG_SysInfo.exe before uninstall of AVG.
I also sent back e-mails too.

(During initial sent back of log files, my PC was freezed again. Thus, I retried again.
I also needed to restart PC and Internet MODEM to restart Internet connection.)

3)
Is there anyway to get old edition of AVG which work fine?

older than :17.4.3014
I also have old installer of AVG about 2011.

4)
It may very good solution to keep open for downloading old edtion from AVG web site.
(For example, AVG 2016 or 2015.)

If the newest edtion of AVG is not working, the the user can choose old edtion which work file.

Allways, a new edition have a risk of initial bug and problems.
It is important to keep publishing at least one old edition, to wait during fixing bug and finding solution of newest edition.

There is no AVG antivirus which work fine if AVG publish newest edition only.
If user removed (uninstall) AVG, the user needed to install other antivirus soft.

5)
My PC work fine again. But, there is no latest AVG which may work fine currently.
Tonny RosenbergTonny Rosenberg
9)
As Glen Miller mentioned in above

>[The worst part is that you can't even tell from the message that it's AVG having the problem.]

I spent about 3 weeks to find out the reason of unknown broken problem of my HDD initalized PC.
I finally find this Website. I needed to register and translate to tell this problem to AVG in English.

This is one of worse experience in past 20 years of my Windows use since Windows Me OS was infected by virus and required to initialize HDD in 1990's.
When I was infected by virus, I saw similar unknown message. Then, I started to use anti-virus soft for Windows.

I also used AVG for 7-8 years and there was no big problem.
I also use/used Avast, Norton, Panda, Trendmicro, etc

10)
There is a Windows standard/beginers level users in other langadges telling:

When tried to use AVG, Home of Web blowser became AVG.
Webserch engin became AVG secure serch from Google.
Even chenge back to Google, AVG became Home of Web blowser.

(I also had similar problem about 5-7 years ago. Thus, I deleted AVG add-on from Google Chrome.)

11)
Many user tried to delete Zen function of AVG, but still not possible.
It seems good idea for user to choose ON/OFF Zen function.
Many unwanted function become heavy software.

4)
It may very good solution to keep opening to download old edition of AVG from AVG web site.
(For example, AVG 2016 or 2015.)

If the newest edtion of AVG is not working, such as this time, the the user can choose old edtion which work file.

13)
It is VERY IMPORTANT (very good solution) to keep opening to download UNinstallation and CLEAR tool in AVG download sites.

Such as

AVG_Clear.exe
AVG_Remover.exe

Then, user don't have to fight to remove residual files of AVG to clean up.

When AVG have (bug) problems, user can remove AVG and solve the problem such as this time.
Norton and other antivirus softs are easy to remove. But, NOT AVG.

There are installation guides in AVG help.
But,there is NO uninstalation (removal) guides in AVG help.
Uninstalation (removal) Guide is essential for users.

(There are many comments regarding difficulity of AVG files to remove completely.)
(There some comments regarding afraid to uninstal AVG due to remaining residual files and problems.)
(I can not find AVG_Clear.exe in AVG download center.)

12)
extra info: may not recommended:
AVG antivirus and Avast antivirus did not conflict in single PC untill now.
One of each antivirus (AVG and Avast) able to detect malware or virus occationally.

========
Summary:

Anyway, please consider to solve the problems of AVG soft and Information/rescue sysytem when AVG softs have a big problem.
During solving, it is higly recommended to release old edition which is working fine.

If user uninstall AVG, the user needed to install other antivirus soft soon.
In other langadges including Japanese, many other users also mentioned when current newest AVG is uninstall sucessfully, PC became fine and run speedy.

I just received an onscreen message from Microsoft that said it was closing AVG because it was a danger to my computer. Let me know if and when you resolve this problem.

Since a week or two ago, I also have been getting the " UI Failed to load, this is really embarrassing" message, at the same time it disconnects me and I have to click on  "restart service" usually several times before it finally starts up and reconnects me to the web.
I have tried ALL the suggestions on here including. (but not limited to) downloading the suggested cleaning / removal tools from AVG and running them before reinstalling , repairing AVG,, etc. etc. but NOTHING works. It's very irritating being disconnected from the web umpteen times a day.
I am running Win XP service pack 3 home edition.

I've been using the free AVG for a while with no problems until a few weeks back and it's clear I'm not alone with this problem, I appreciate that it's the FREE version so I can't really complain but I'm now ready to just take AVG off my PC and find something else but would prefer to get this problem solved.

SOLVED!!!

KUDOS TO KEN EDMONDS :-)

THANK YOU KEN!

I performed ALL of the steps AVG had suggested to no avail. I actually thought that a SERVICE or PROGRAM may have been the problem so I DISABLED a lot of SERVICES and removed a lot of PROGRAMS. Still not working. After seeing your resolution TODAY I set Terminal Services (which is one of the ones I disabled as a last resort to get AVG working) to start AUTOMATICALLY and though I had a problem STARTING it I eventually was able to (SEE BELOW) and BAMM AVG started working as designed! :-) :-) :-) SO TERMINAL SERVICE SERVICE IS THE KEY. Set it to automatic and start her up to resolve this ugly mess.

Under SERVICES in XP Administrative Tools RIGHT CLICK on Terminal Service and select PROPERTIES. Once in properties select the Startup Type - AUTOMATIC. THEN CLICK ON THE LOG ON tab and ensure that the HARDWARE PROFILE for your system is enabled. If not, enable it (touch nothing else here). NEXT go back to the GENERAL tab and START the service in the Service Status area. This should START and set Terminal Services to AUTOMATIC on system boot. Now that it is Started you can exit Administrative Tools and try AVG - I think you'll be happy :-)

Hello.  I just bought a brand new Windows 10 Laptop and purchased AVG to go along with it.  I am very disappointed as a new user so far because I am getting this exact same problem.   My laptop was fast before I installed AVG, now AVG slows it down or causes it to freeze entirely and says "UI Failing to Load, restart required" constantly.   AVG needs to address this problem immediately because it is clearly impacting new computers even with a fresh installation.

I have had the "UI failed to load problem for several months" and have performed all of the above routines to try to get rid of it.  I have spoken with AVG on the phone several times and had them step me through their routines.  I STILL have the problem - at least once per hour.

Hello all
I recently had a major issue with uninstalling and reinstalling AVG Internet Security on my Windows 7 PC. AVG support staff were excellent and eventually the remote technician succeeded in installing Internet_Security_x64_1825. I managed to run one scan but when I tried to re-open AVG, I experienced the "UI Failed to load" error. I am not an IT expert but I am a person who makes things happen. I've found a solution and I hope it works for you:
1. Edit the PATH environment variable on your PC by adding the path of avgui.exe If you haven’t done this before, please google it.
2. Uninstall AVG Internet Security using Control Panel or RevoUninstaller
3. Run AVG Clear, AVG Remover and AVG RemoverFix, with all the required restarts. If a restart doesn’t happen by itself, do it manually. I understand that AVG Remover isn't supposed to work on more recent versions of AVG Internet Security but it doesn't appear to do any harm.
4.  Restart your computer.
5. Install a slightly older version of AVG Internet Security (Internet_Security_x64_1820.exe worked for me) instead of the most recent versions such as Internet_Security_x64_1825.exe or Internet_Security_1824.exe
6.  Restart your computer again.
7. Cross your fingers! It worked for me.

Struggling with non-AVG technology? We can fix that, too!
